50-Word Essay: Facebook Friends

Facebook Friends

Many use Facebook to stay connected with friends, rekindle dormant friendships and make new ones. However, it has come to a point where people are accepting and adding strangers just to show off the number of “friends” on their profile. In the end, the sole purpose of Facebook is lost.

Assignment: Transformation Portrait (progress)

I wanted to do a portrait where I utilised photography(digital art) and combining it with manual art. So I decided to do a portrait where it is of a normal human but when you flip down the transparent sheet, it transforms the person into a monster.

The photograph was taken in the Photo Studio using a DSLR camera. Here I used a photograph of Arieff and taped transparent sheet on top so it can be flipped up.

First, I mapped out where I will put all the features, in relation to his face.

I then added details..

 More details...

At first I wanted to do just half of the face but then I decided to do the whole face including the hands.

Assignment: Black Squares

After creating the black squares, we then had to trace them and outline them using masking fluid which prevents water colour from leaking outside of the the line created by the masking fluid. We filled the shapes in with watercolour very lightly and overlapped them so the part which is overlapped is darker in shade

On a A2 watercolour paper, we had to overlap different shapes to fill the spaces

Experimenting with spraypaint and stencil of a cut and folded black square:

Assignment: Black Squares, Cut and Bend

We had to make another 50 black squares, but this time we had to cut a part of the square and bend it.

My process:

I enjoyed doing this assignment because I like folding origami so this was something similar. I liked the shapes that were created as they were modern looking.
