Assignment 1: Unconventional Self Portrait

The Assignment
Our first assignment was to create a self portrait by using unconventional methods. This self portrait has to represent ourselves and "sheds light on our personality". We were encouraged to think out of the box and be as creative as possible.

My Ideas
While I was thinking about what represents me, the first thing that came to mind was my name. Your name is your identity. It is how people address you. It has been with you ever since you first emerged into this world. When I was younger, many people called me "Jasmine Rice", "Jasmine Flower", "Jasmine Tea". Although it was slightly annoying, I either went along with it or ignored it completely and the name calling eventually stopped. By doing this, I embraced my name and come to really love it. Therefore, I thought I could used Jasmine Tea to use to create my self portrait.

Another idea was to use Jasmine rice on a black background to create a posterized effect.

When I think of identity, I also thought of my fingerprint. Everybody's fingerprint is different and unique. You are the only person in the world with that finger print. My idea is to use an inkpad and my fingerprint to make my portrait out of many stamps of my fingerprint. By putting more or less ink on my finger I can create different tones.
